Women's Soccer Falls to Adrian in MIAA Final

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team lost 4-1 to Adrian College in the MIAA Tournament Championship Saturday night.

The host Bulldogs got on the board first in the 13th minute and led 2-0 after 19 minutes. Adrian scored again in the 32nd and 39th minutes to take a 4-0 lead into halftime. Three of Adrian's goals came off corner kicks.

Josie Sibley scored in the 72nd minute with a header off a pass from Julie Zabik.

Adrian outshot Kalamazoo 9-4 in the first half. Kalamazoo outshot Adrian 11-6 while trying to come back in the second half resulting in each team ending the game with 15 shots. Adrian held an 8-7 edge in shots on goal. Adrian committed 15 fouls compared to Kalamazoo's seven. Each team had seven corner kicks.

"Congratulations to Adrian, they are a deserving champion," said Head Coach Bryan Goyings. "Although we are disappointed in the result, I am very proud of the resilience the group showed not just tonight but throughout the season."

Kalamazoo finished the season 8-8-3 overall while finishing third in the league with a 5-2-1 record.

"At one point during the year, we were 1-5-3," Goyings said. "To finish the season as MIAA finalist and with eight wins speaks to the belief and determination of this team."
