Kalamazoo, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team defeated visiting Saint Mary's College 2-0 Tuesday night at MacKenzie Field.

In a game that didn't seem as close as the final score indicated, the Hornets (8-3, 2-2 MIAA) outshot the Belles 17-5 on the evening. Cassidy Short got K started in the 36th minute by finding Holly Bowling with a brilliant crossing pass from the right side of the Saint Mary's net. Bowling tallied her first career goal when she jumped and kicked the ball on the fly past the Belles keeper.

"It was nice to see Holly and Cassidy combine for the first goal," Kalamazoo head coach Bryan Goyings said. "That really put us in a nice position heading into halftime. There were some moments when we really looked sharp connecting passes and switching the point of attack."

Destiny Garcia scored an insurance goal in the 62nd minute, converting a crossing pass from Sophia Timm-Blow with a slick left-footed boot from eight yards out. Garcia's sixth goal of the season ties her with Kai Ketola for the team lead.

"Kai, Savera (Rajendra-Nicolucci) and Anna Murphy had some excellent play in the midfield throughout the game," said Goyings. "As we head into the second half of league play, it will be critical to continue improving. I believe our best soccer is still ahead of us.'

Madison Barch stopped three Saint Mary shots to claim the shutout.

Next up for the Hornets is a trip to Olivet High School, where they will face host Olivet College at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
