Women's Swimming and Diving wins at Olivet

OLIVET - The Kalamazoo College women's swimming and diving team won its first dual meet of the 2013-14 season 167.5-119.5 at Olivet College on Saturday.

Kalamazoo took first place in all 16 events.

"Tristyn Edsall had the best swim for the women in the 100 backstroke (best time)," said Kalamazoo Head Coach Kathy Milliken. "The team had a really tough week of practice. Despite being extremely fatigued and sore, they came out and raced hard. Most of the upperclassmen swam faster in this meet than the first one last year which is always a good sign."

Kalamazoo opened the meet by winning the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:56.04 (Edsall, Varana, Doepker, Olsen). The 'B' team finished third (Bowman, Neveux, Sneideman, Pritkin).

Alex Stephens took first in the 1000 Freestyle (11:46.66) while Gabrielle Montesanti and Greta Herrin finished second and third, respectively.

Miranda Doepker won the 200 Freestyle (2:04.24) as well as the 100 Butterfly (1:02.62). Janice Burnett finished second in the 100 Fly.

Tristyn Edsall took first in the 100 Backstroke (1:02.71) and the 100 Freestyle (:55.62).

Jessica Varana won the 100 Breaststroke (1:14.04) while Kate Cebelak and Mallory McClure finished second and third, respectively. Varana also finished third in the 100 Freestyle.

Colleen Orwin won the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:17.66 while also winning the 500 Freestyle (5:25.41) and 200 IM (2:18.01). Haley Pritkin finished third in the 200 Fly while Varana finished third in the 200 IM.

Gabrielle Montesanti took first in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:26.96.

Kalamazoo took the top three spots in the 200 Breaststroke with Ellen Neveux posting the top time of 2:44.55. Kate Cebelak finished second whilt McClure finished third.

Katie Callaghan won both diving events, scoring 184.40 in the 1M and 198.20 in the 3M.

The Hornets closed out the meet with a win the 200 Free Relay (Edsall, Burnett, Bowman, Orwin) with a time of 1:44.35. The 'C' team finished third (Cebelak, Schmitt, Neveux, Herrin).

Hannah Olsen finished second in the 200 Freestyle and third in the 50 Freestyle. Christina Park finished second in the 50 Freestyle while Janice Burnett finished second in the 100 Butterfly. Natalie Schmidt finished third in the 500 Freestyle.

Kalamazoo returns home to face Albion College next Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.
