Women's Swimming and Diving finishes third at Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. – The Kalamazoo College women's swimming and diving team finished third in a quad with host Wheaton, Hope, and Lake Forest College (Ill.). Wheaton won the meet with a score of 561 points. Hope finished second with 474 points while Kalamazoo tallied 453 points. Lake Forest finished fourth with 256 points.

The Hornets began the day with a second place finish in the 400 Yard Medley Relay. The Kalamazoo team of Christina Park, Jessica Varana, Colleen Orwin, Tristyn Edsall finished with a time of 4:07.66.

Kalamazoo picked up its first victory of the meet in the 50 yard Freestyle. Edsall swam a 24.96 beating Hope's Klare Northuis by .33 seconds. Kalamazoo's Hannah Olsen also swam in the race and finished fourth.

In the very next race, Orwin finished second in the 200 Yard Individual Medley. The freshman swam a time of 2:15.76 and finished less than half of a second behind first place. Orwin continued her stellar day by winning the 200 yard Butterfly with a time of 2:13.13. The swim was four seconds better than the field.

The 500 Yard freestyle belonged to Lauren Seroka. The sophomore turned in a time of 5:12.16 and finished 12 seconds better than the runner-up from Wheaton.

The Hornets closed out the day with a second place finish in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. Park, Olsen, Miranda Doepker, and Seroka finished with a time of 3:41.62.

"After a long break from competition, we swam very strong today, Kalamazoo Head Coach Kathy Milliken said. "We had almost all in season best times."

The Hornets return to action Jan. 18 for a 1:00 p.m. meet at Calvin.
