GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's swimming and diving team competed in the second day of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday, Feb. 13 held at Calvin College.

Kalamazoo came into the day in third after a third place finish in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay yesterday, Feb. 12. The Hornets began Thursday with a third place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. Hannah Olsen, Janice Burnett, Miranda Doepker, and Tristyn Edsall swam a time of 1:36.43, just over a second behind the winning team from Hope College.

Lauren Seroka won the first event of the day for the Hornets, the 500 Yard Freestyle. The sophomore was seeded first after prelims, and won the event with a time of 5:02.80 – 2.5 seconds quicker than Miranda Anderson of Alma College.

In the 50 Yard Freestyle, freshman Tristyn Edsall broke the MIAA record in the morning prelims by swimming a time of 23.31. The record was previously held by Hope's Libby Westrate who swam a 23.34 in 2013. Edsall followed her record-breaking morning by winning the event in the evening with a time of 23.65.

In the final event of the night, Kalamazoo took third place in the 400 Yard Medley Relay. Christina Park, Jessica Varana, Doepker, and Edsall swam a time of 4:02.00.

Edsall's time earns her a very high B-Cut time for the NCAA III Swimming and Diving Championships held in Indianapolis, Ind. Seroka also earned a B-Cut time for her efforts in the 500 Yard Freestyle.

Kalamazoo currently sits in third place with 231 points, 49 points behind first place Calvin. Day Three begins tomorrow, Feb. 14, at 10:00 a.m.
