Women's Swimming and Diving in third place after Friday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Kalamazoo women's swimming and diving team competed in the third day of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships Friday, Feb. 14. The Hornets came into the day in third place with 231 points, 49 points behind leader Hope.

Kalamazoo took third in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The Hornet squad of Christina Park, Jessica Varana, Miranda Doepker, and Tristyn Edsall finished with a time of 1:48.34.

After the relay, Kate Cebelak took fifth place in the 400 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 4:49.26. Doepker followed up with a second-place finish in the 100 Yard Butterfly. The Farmington Hills native swam a time of 58.95, just half of a second slower than Molly Meyer of Hope. Hannah Olsen also swam in the event finishing fifth with a time of 1:00.55.

Lauren Seroka won the lone event of the day for Kalamazoo in the 200 Yard Freestyle. Seroka swam a time of 1:54.82 – 1.5 seconds quicker than Kathryn Robel of Calvin.

Varana finished seventh in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:09.94. In the final event of the day, Park placed eighth in the 100 Yard Backstroke swimming a time of 1:00.25.

The Hornets sit in third place with 391 points. First-place Calvin has 586 points. The final day of the 2014 MIAA Championships, Feb.15, begins with 10:00 a.m. prelims and finals scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
