Women's Swimming and Diving finishes third at MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's swimming and diving team finished third in the 2014 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships held from Feb. 12-15 at the Venema Aquatic Center. After three days of competition, the Hornets stood in third place with 391 points.

Lauren Seroka won 1,650 Yard Freestyle, her third MIAA title of the weekend. The Canton native swam a time of 1:54.82. Kathryn Wrobel of Calvin finished second swimming a time of 1:56.13.

In the 200 Yard Backstroke, Christina Park placed sixth with a time of 2:11.64. Tristyn Edsall and Hannah Olsen followed in with third and fifth place finishes respectively in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Edsall, who broke the MIAA record in the 50 Yard Freestyle on Friday, swam a time of 52.91 while Olsen tapped with a time of 54.00.

In the next event, the 200 Yard Breaststroke, Jessica Varana's time of 2:30.37 was good for fifth place. Miranda Doepker then earned a runner-up finish in the 200 Yard Butterfly swimming a time of 2:10.50. Hope's Lindsay Wiederhold won the event with a time of 2:09.22.

In the final event of the championships, Kalamazoo placed fourth in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. Janice Burnett, Seroka, Olsen, and Edsall finished with a time of 3:36.57.

Kalamazoo finishes third in the MIAA for the eighth consecutive year. The Hornets tallied 551 points in the meet. Final team results are posted below.
