Women's Swimming and Diving Competes at MIAA Championships

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's swimming and diving team continued competition on the third day of the MIAA Championships at Hope on Friday (Feb. 23). The Hornets stayed in fourth place after 35 events with 283 points.

The standings currently have Hope in first (751.5 points), Calvin in second (623.5 points), Albion in third (329 points), Kalamazoo in fourth, Alma in fifth (266 points), and Olivet in sixth (137 points).

Wednesday, Feb. 21

In the lone finals event of the day, the 800 Free Relay team of Anni Schnell, Frannie Turner, Hailey Yoder, and Ava Williams finished in seventh with a time of 8:18.62.

Thursday, Feb. 22

Kalamazoo had eight individuals place well enough in the prelims in the morning to move on to the finals that night. Becca Zoetewey had the lone top-eight finish in the 3-meter dive after finishing in eighth with 278.65 points.

The 200 Free Relay team finished in seventh place, as Anni Schnell, Olivia Bagwell, Lily May, and Jackie Stoddard finished at 1:41.77. The second Kalamazoo team touched the wall five seconds later in eighth place, with Ava Williams, Hailey Yoder, Elizabeth Muenzenmaier, and Elise Elliot in the pool.

The first Hornet 400 Medley Relay team also came in seventh after Anni Schnell, Mary Muenzenmaier, Olivia Bagwell, and Frannie Turner touched the wall at 4:08.38.

Friday, Feb. 23

Kalamazoo had 12 more individuals place well enough in the prelims in the morning to move on to the finals that night. Anni Schnell had the best individual night with a fifth-place finish in the 100 Fly at 58.86 and a sixth-place finish in the 100 Back at 1:00.72. 

The 200 Medley Relay team finished in seventh place, as Frannie Turner, Mary Muenzenmaier, Olivia Bagwell, and Jackie Stoddard finished at 1:54.28. 

Saturday, Feb. 24

Kalamazoo had 11 more individuals place well enough in the prelims in the morning to move on to the finals that night.

Frannie Turner and Anni Schnell picked up top-eight finishes in the 200 Fly, as Turner came in fifth at 2:16.36 and Schnell came in eighth at 2:22.29. Sofia Santos came in sixth in the 1-meter dive with 348.60 points.

The Hornets had 31 individuals place well enough in the prelims to move on to the finals and 11 top-eight finishes at the conference meet.
