Women's Tennis defeats Wheaton (Ill.) 7-2

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team won its third dual match of the season Saturday, Mar. 1 with a 7-2 victory over regionally-ranked Wheaton (Ill.).

Kalamazoo came into the match ranked No. 15 in the region while Wheaton was ranked No. 17.

The Hornets won two of three doubles flights. Sophomore Ania Latala and freshman Sabrina Dass won a lopsided 8-1 match at third doubles while senior Kelsey Moran and junior Olivia Bouchard won an 8-4 decision at second doubles.

Senior Jenna Riehl and sophomore Sarah Woods fell to Sarah Ray and Julie Buursma 8-5 at first doubles.

As singles began, the Thunder tied the match 2-2 when Lauren Schlabach defeated Moran 6-3, 6-1 at third singles. Kalamazoo responded as Riehl won two sets via tiebreak 7-6(4), 7-6(1) defeating Buursma at second singles.

Minutes later, K took a 4-2 match lead when Woods edged Ray 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(5) at first singles. The Hornets clinched the match as Dass won a three-set match 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(5) over Emily Jones at fourth singles.

Kalamazoo won the last two flights to win the match 7-2. The Hornets will take their spring trip from Mar. 21-25 where they will place three matches in Orlando, Fla.
