Three Hornets earn All-MIAA honors; Woods named MVP

Three members of the Kalamazoo College women's tennis team were recognized with All-MIAA honors on Thursday while Sarah Woods was also named the league's Most Valuable Player.

Woods amd Sabrina Dass earned All-MIAA First Team honors while Maria Franco was named to the second team.

A senior from Oconomowoc, Wis., Woods became Kalamazoo's second player to be named league MVP all four years (Jackie Aurelia, 1991-94). Woods is the fourth Hornet to earn All-MIAA First Team honors all four years. Woods went 8-0 at No. 1 singles in conference play and finished her career 30-0 in MIAA regular season matches. Woods and Dass teamed up to go 7-1 at No. 1 doubles this season.

Dass, a junior from Grand Blanc, Mich., went 7-1 in conference play at No. 2 singles while teaming up with Woods to go 7-1 at No. 1 doubles. A second team selection last year, Dass now has an MIAA career record of 21-2 in singles and 23-1 in doubles.

A sophomore from Quito, Ecuador, Franco earned All-MIAA Second Team honors for the second consecutive year. She finished 8-0 in the conference at No. 3 singles while posting a 7-1 record at No. 2 doubles.

Kalamazoo finished the regular season in second place in the MIAA with a 7-1 record (10-10 overall).
