KALAMAZOO, Mich. – In a release from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Monday afternoon, Maria Franco of the Kalamazoo College women's tennis team was named the league's tennis player of the week.
Franco, a junior from Quito, Ecuador, went 3-1 overall on the weekend as the Hornets split their road trip defeating Coe College and falling to No. 38 Carleton College.
Despite losing 7-2 as a team to nationally ranked Carleton, Franco served as the bright spot winning her doubles match with Sabrina Dass, 8-6, and her one singles match, 6-2, 6-2.
Against Coe, Franco added her third win of the weekend with Dass winning one doubles, 8-3.
This is the first time in Franco's career she's been named the MIAA's player of the week. She was an All-MIAA Second Team pick each of the last two seasons.
