Women's Tennis Places Three on All-MIAA Teams

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Following the conclusion of the regular season in which the Kalamazoo College women's tennis team finished second in the MIAA, the Hornets earned recognition with three players placing on All-MIAA Teams. Caroline Norton received First Team honors while Helen Pelak and Sophie Zhuang made the Second Team.

Norton is a junior from Ann Arbor, Mich. (Skyline HS) who spent the season playing at the No. 1 singles spot for the Hornets. She ended the regular season with a 7-5 overall mark, going 6-2 in conference play. With Renee Torres at No. 2 doubles, she compiled an 8-1 record and went undefeated in the MIAA with a 6-0 mark. Norton improves to a 29-15 overall career record and 14-1 in MIAA matches. 

Pelak, a senior from Mclean, Va. (Mclean HS) wrapped up her fourth season with the Hornets taking home an 8-4 record and finishing 6-2 in MIAA singles matches. She won two games at the No. 2 spot and five at No. 3. Pelak held court with Sophie Zhuang at No. 1 doubles, the pair compiling a 5-6 record. This is the second time Pelak has received All-MIAA honors. 

In her sophomore season with the Hornets, Sophie Zhuang from Northville, Mich. (Northville HS) went undefeated in league singles competition, finishing 7-0 and with an overall record of 10-1. She was 4-1 in the No. 3 spot and 6-0 at No. 4. Partnering with Pelak in No. 1 doubles the duo picked up five wins. This is Zhuang's first time being named All-MIAA.

The Hornets begin the first round of the MIAA Tournament at home on Wednesday against No. 3 Trine on Wednesday, May 5.
