Volleyball drops two at Wheaton Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team dropped two matches at the Wheaton Invitational Saturday, Sept. 28. The Hornets fell in straight sets to Wheaton (Ill.) by scores of 25-14, 25-16, 25-19 and to Carthage (Wis.) in four sets by scores of 25-17, 25-13, 19-25, 25-20. 

In the match with Wheaton, sophomore outside hitter Nya Greenstone led the Hornets offensively with 14 kills. Senior right side Quinn McCormick hit a .500 clip (10 kills on 16 attempts with two errors). Junior setter Alex Gothard dished out 29 assists.

Kalamazoo tallied four blocks in the match but surrendered eight. The Hornets hit just .072 for the match while the Thunder hit a .244 clip. 

The match with Carthage was a defensive battle. Two Hornets, freshmen Logan Horejsi and Dana DeVito, recorded over 20 digs. Hanna Cahoon recorded a game-high 29 digs. 

Carthage tallied 12 blocks compared to seven for K. McCormick was the lone Hornet to record double-digit kills with 10. 

Kalamazoo falls to 8-8 on the season. The Hornets return to action Tuesday, Oct. 1, when K takes on the nation's top-ranked team, Calvin.
