Volleyball opens season with wins over Anderson and Rose-Hulman

NORTH MANCHESTER, IN - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team opened the 2014 season with a pair of wins at the HCAC/MIAA Challenge hosted by Manchester College.

Kalamazoo began the day Friday with a 25-19, 30-28, 25-19 over Anderson.

Nya Greenstone led the Hornets with 10 kills, eight digs and three service aces. Kaela Van Til also had 10 kills with five digs and just three attack errors.

Paige Johnson and Kelsey Hill each had eight kills in the match while Alex Gothard had six kills with 36 assists and nine digs.

Logan Horejsi led the team with 26 digs.

Kalamazoo then defeated Rose-Hulman in four sets, 25-14, 22-25, 25-21, 25-15.

Nya Greenstone led the Hornets with 18 kills and 12 digs.

Kaela Van Til added 11 kills and 11 digs with four blocks. Paige Johnson and Sidney Wall each had seven kills.

Alex Gothard had 40 assists with 21 digs while Logan Horejsi had 31 digs.

The Hornets face host Manchester on Saturday at 11 a.m. followed by Franklin at 1 p.m.
