Volleyball opens season with four straight wins

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team won two matches on Saturday to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Kalamazoo defeated host Manchester University 25-14, 25-20, 25-14 to open the day followed by a 25-16, 25-21, 25-15 win over Franklin College.

Against Manchester, Nya Greenstone led Kalamazoo with nine kills with just two attack errors to go with three blocks.

Kelsey Hill had six kills with four blocks while Kaela Van Til also had six kills with five digs.

Alex Gothard had 29 assists with four digs.

Against Franklin, Greenstone had 10 kills with three service aces and four digs.

Paige Johnson had nine kills with two blocks. Van Til had seven kills.

Gothard had 31 assists with 14 digs, three service aces and four kills.

Following the event, Nya Greenstone was named to the All-Tournament Team.

"It was a great start to our season as everyone really stepped up," said Kalamazoo Head Coach Jeanne Hess. "We played outstanding defense and our seniors really led the way."

Kalamazoo is scheduled to open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at Olivet at 7 p.m.
