Volleyball defeats Alma in four sets

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team defeated Alma in four sets inside Anderson Athletic Center on Tuesday.

Kalamazoo won the first two sets 25-12, 25-18, but dropped the third set, 25-23. The Hornets trailed the majority of the fourth set, including 16-9 at one point. Kalamazoo rallied and eventually tied it at 21-21 before winning, 25-22.

Kalamazoo had its best offensive showing since the first match of the season, hitting .254 compared to .084 for the visiting Scots. Kalamazoo had eight service aces compared to four for Alma, and the Hornets had nine total team blocks compared to four for the Scots.

Nya Greenstone led Kalamazoo with 15 kills and a .310 hitting percentage. Kaela Van Til had 13 kills while hitting .281.

Paige Johnson added six kills along with six block assists.

Alex Gothard had 34 assists with 12 digs. Dana Devito had a team-high 13 digs.

Kalamazoo remains home for its next contest as the Hornets host Olivet College on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
