Volleyball sweeps Adrian on Senior Night

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team swept Adrian College  25-17, 25-23, 25-15 in front of an enthusiastic crowd on senior night at Anderson Athletic Center on Wednesday. Kalamazoo College also celebrated Coach Hess' 1,000th match as head coach of the Hornets with many alumni and friends in attendance.

Kalamazoo led from start to finish in the opening set, but faced challenges in the second and third sets. The Hornets trailed 16-14 in the second set before rallying to win 25-23. The third set was tied 12-12 before Kalamazoo scored 13 of the next 16 points to win the set and the match.

Kalamazoo hit .270 for the match while Adrian was limited to .148. The Hornets also had seven service aces compared to three for the Bulldogs.

Nya Greenstone led the Hornet offense with 15 kills and 14 digs while hitting .325 for the match.

Paige Johnson had eight kills while Kelsey Hill and Kaela Van Til each had seven kills. Hill hit .455 and Van Til hit .316 and both were in on a block. Noa Yaakoby added six kills off the bench.

Alex Gothard had 37 assists with 10 digs and three kills. Logan Horejsi had a team-high 16 digs.

Kalamazoo moved ahead of Adrian in the standings with the win and the Hornets are now in sixth place in the MIAA. Kalamazoo closes out the season next week at Hope and Alma.
