Volleyball Sweeps Great Lakes Christian

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team defeated Great Lakes Christian in three sets at home Saturday afternoon, 25-11, 25-17, 25-16.

Kalamazoo used a 9-1 run early in the first set to take a 13-4 lead. With a 20-10 lead late, Kalamazoo scored five of the last six points to win the set 25-11.

Holding a slim 17-16 lead in set two, Kalamazoo rallied for eight of the last nine points to win the set 25-17.

With a 6-5 lead in set three, Kalamazoo used a 12-2 run to pull ahead 18-7. The visiting Crusaders used a 6-0 run to make it 19-14 in favor of Kalamazoo before the Hornets scored six of the last eight points to win the set (25-16) and the match.

Kalamazoo hit .241 in the match compared to -.072 for Great Lakes Christian.

Charlotte Ruiter and Jacky LaFollette each had six kills to lead the Hornets offensively. Hannah VanderLugt, Emma Stickley and Halley Johnson each had five kills.

Sara Reathaford led the Hornets with 13 assists. Jana Molby finished with 10.

Reathaford and Johnson led the Hornets with seven digs each. Rachel Meston and Morgan Shearer each finished with five.

Shearer and Johnson also had four aces each out of 11 serve attempts.

Kalamazoo returns to conference play with a match at Albion on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m.
