Volleyball Wins in Three Sets at Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College volleybal team won in three sets at Defiance College Saturday afternoon, 25-17, 27-25, 25-23.

After a 13-13 tie in the first set, Kalamazoo closed out the set on a 12-4 run to win 25-17.

Kalamazoo trailed 18-10 in the second set before tying it at 23-23. Kalamazoo trailed 24-23 and 25-24 before winning the final three points to take the set 27-25.

After an early lead in the third, Kalamzoo trailed 22-21 and then 23-22 before winning the final three points to win the set (25-23) and the match.

Kalamazoo hit .227 for the match compared to .169 by Defiance. 

Halley Johnson led the Hornets with 10 kills. Savannah Chapie added seven, while Brittany Miller finished with six.

Rorie Dougherty had 17 assists. Sara Reathaford added 13.

Lizzy Rachiele led the team with 17 digs.

Rachel Meston had a team-best five service aces.

Kalamazoo returns home to open MIAA play Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. against Saint Mary's.
