HOLLAND, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team just missed pulling out an upset Saturday afternoon as the Hornets fell on the road to No. 9 Hope College, 86-78, in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

Kalamazoo was focused from the get-go to walk away with its first win of the MIAA season as Josh Miller, Jimmy Paprocki and Demarco Dickerson gave the Hornets an 11-5 lead with 16:17 remaining in the first half.

The Hornets extended their lead to as large as 12 on a made jumper from Miller with 9:50 on the first half clock, but the Flying Dutchmen were able to cut the Hornets' lead to three as Kalamazoo led 46-43 at the half.

After Hope began the second half on a 7-0 run to regain the lead, Kalamazoo continued to fight as Chase Baysdell put the Hornets back ahead 51-50 with 15:22 remaining in regulation.

Down the stretch, the game was marked by 11 lead changes until Hope took a 77-75 lead with 3:25 remaining and never surrendered it the rest of the way.

Dickerson, Baysdell and Miller all scored in double figures recording 19, 16 and 14 points, respectively. Baysdell recorded a team-high seven rebounds.

Tommy Cerven provided a spark off the bench for the Hornets scoring 10 points and corralling five rebounds.

Paprocki ended his day with six points to go along with three rebounds.

The Hornets outshot the Dutchmen from the field as Kalamazoo ended the day with a 45.3 percent field goal percentage compared to Hope's 36.1 percent. But the Dutchmen made the most of their opportunities at the free throw line, heading to the charity stripe 44 times and shooting 84.1 percent.

Kalamazoo will look to bounce back on Wednesday, Jan. 27 with a home game against Adrian.
