HOLLAND, MI - Kalamazoo College's Will Guedes and Tristyn Edsall both came up big at the MIAA championships and both walked away with MVP awards.
Guedes won the MIAA men's Most Valuable Diver for the second time in his career. The senior came in first place in the 1M with a score of 519.25, and also finished in first place in the 3M with a score of 612.10. He was very humble when speaking on his accomplishments.
"It's great to be recognized for the work I've done once again," Guedes said. "Nonetheless, I've done very little and who really deserves the recognition are our coaches, Kyle Oberhill, Kathy Milliken, and Paul Hughes."
Tristyn Edsall won the MIAA women's Most Valuable swimmer for the first time in her young career. The sophomore finished first in the 50 freestyle with a time of :23.74, and second in the 100 freestyle with a time of :52.6. Edsall was also a member of the first place 200 free relay team, and the 200 medley relay team. In the 50 freestyle MIAA prelims, Edsall broke the record with a time of :23.23. She also looked to thank her teammates and coaches.
"Honestly, I was surprised to see my name on the board as the most valuable swimmer," Edsall said. "There were so many other swimmers that were all so deserving of the MVP of the meet that I was grateful. The best part was to see my teammates and coaches all so happy for me since they were a big part in helping me receive that honor."
Edsall is the first women's swimming MVP in the history of Kalamazoo College.
