Kalamazoo College's Branden Metzler was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Central Region Player to Watch on Wednesday, a day before the opening round of the NCAA III Singles/Doubles Championships in Kalamazoo.
Metzler received the award after earning Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) MVP and All-MIAA First Team honors for the third consecutive year while leading the Hornets to their 78th consecutive conference championship.
Metzler holds a record of 27-2 in singles this season and is the No. 7 seed for the singles national championships that begin tomorrow. He is scheduled to face Matthew Heinrich (Stevens Institute of Technology) at 9 a.m. at Kalamazoo's Stowe Stadium.
