Kalamazoo College's Branden Metzler will play for an NCAA III Singles Championship at Stowe Stadium on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Metzler advanced to the finals after straight-set wins in front of energetic crowds during Friday's quarterfinal and semifinal matches.
Metzler won his NCAA III quarterfinal match 6-3, 6-3 over No. 1 seed Noah Farrell of Middlebury Friday morning.
Metzler led early in the first set, but trailed 3-2 in the second set before winning four straight games to clinch the win.
In the semifinals, Metzler defeated Zach Hewlin of Whitman, 6-3, 6-4. Whitman defeated the No. 3 seed during the morning semifinals.
Metzler's opponent in the finals is Skyler Butts of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.). Butts won his first three matches of the tournament in straight sets before winning a three-set match in the semifinals.
Metzler looks to become Kalamazoo's first singles national champion since 1994 (Seth Denawetz). Kalamazoo has produced six singles champions and three pairs of doubles champions.
