Kalamazoo College 's Ian Yi is one of 32 players across the nation selected to compete at the 2019 NCAA III Singles Championships. Kalamazoo College is the host site of the 2019 NCAA III Tennis Championships with the singles and doubles tournaments taking place May 24-26. The team tournaments run May 20-22.
A freshman from Ann Arbor, Mich. (Pioneer HS), Yi qualified for the tournament with a singles record of 20-4 this season. He earned MIAA MVP honors with a 7-0 league record. Yi earned MIAA Player of the Week honors three times, was ranked third in the region in the latest rankings (April 25), and has one eight of his last nine completed matches, including seven straight.
The draw and scheduled match times should be announced May 23.
Prior to the national singles championships Yi will help the Hornets as a team try to get back to Stowe Stadium. Kalamazoo plays a second round match Friday in St. Louis. If the Hornets win Friday and Saturday they would advance to the quarterfinals May 20 in Kalamazoo.
