Kalamazoo, MI - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team defeated Oberlin 59-34 on Tuesday night. The team moves to 7-4 overall and remains 2-1 in MIAA play. The win is the team's third in a row and fifth in their last six games.

The Hornets were tested by the Yeowomen for the entirety of the first half. Kalamazoo went on a key run in the last three minutes of the first half to take the 27-21 lead into halftime. The Hornets then opened the second half on an 11-2 run to push the lead up to 38-23 and never let Oberlin get back into the ball game.

Tonight was a story of the bench for Kalamazoo. Danielle Simon and Querubin Dubois combined for 21 points, five steals, two blocks, four assists, and three rebounds. The bench duo did all of their damage in a combined 36 minutes of playing time. Perri Nicholson also had a massive game for Kalamazoo; she put up six points, 10 rebounds, and added four steals. Emily Kozal had a nice game off the bench for the Hornets with seven points on 3/6 shooting. Grace Smith had nine points and six boards while shooting 4/8 from the floor.

The Hornets played smothering defense tonight, and it showed in the twenty turnovers that were committed by the Yeowomen. At the same time, Kalamazoo did a nice job of taking care of the ball; only coughing it up ten times. The Hornets also had four times the second chance points of Oberlin (16-4).

This was the women's first game in ten days, but it was clear after the first half that the rust had been shaken off. They won't have a long break this time as Kalamazoo's next game is Saturday, Jan. 3 on the road against conference opponent Alma.
