Women's Basketball gets huge win over Trine

Kelsey Adamski playing basketball.

KALAMAZOO, MI. – The Kalamazoo college women's basketball team defeated Trine University 81-64 on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets move to 10-7 overall and 5-4 in MIAA play this season. The 5-4 MIAA record moves them currently into conference playoff position at third.

It was just an offensive explosion for the Hornets, who were coming off three frustratingly close losses in a row. Today they brought their A-game – especially Kelsey Adamski, Emily Lindsay, and Perri Nicholson.

Adamski did it all with a stat line of 23 points, nine assists, and nine rebounds; just short of a triple-double. She was handling the ball like it was on a string and hit a few step back jumpers that simply weren't guardable. She went a staggering 8-of-11 from the field.

Emily Lindsay, who has been coming off the bench due to an injury related minute restriction almost couldn't miss from downtown as she went 5-of-7 from three point land. Two of the game's most pivotal moments were an incredibly deep three she hit at the buzzer before halftime, and a three pointer she hit ten minutes into the second half off a half court pass from Adamski that wound up being a four point play. Perri Nicholson also had a really good night with 15 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Emily Kozal had another nice night off the bench with six points, a rebound, and a steal in just 14 minutes.

Despite the offensive output from the Hornets, they weren't able to put the Thunder away until the very end of the game. Lindsay's four point play was one of the daggers that seemed to break their spirit a little bit, but they still kept attacking the rim and never let Kalamazoo keep a comfortable lead for more than a few minutes.

Still, The Hornets jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start this ball game and never trailed once after that. They were the hungrier team and it showed. They ended their short losing skid in a big way against a very talented team.

Kalamazoo will get a chance to start another win streak Wednesday, Jan. 28 at home against Olivet.
