Women's Lacrosse Wins at Whittier

WHITTIER, Calif. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team won its final game in California 19-17 over Whittier College Friday night.

Kalamazoo scored the first two goals of the game and never trailed, but the score remained close throughtout most of the contest.

Kalamazoo led by as many as four in the first half before taking an 11-9 lead into halftime.

The Hornets led 12-11 early in the second half before scoring seven of the next eight goals to take a 19-12 lead with 9:35 remaining. Whittier scored the final five goals, including the last one with eight seconds left, to make it a a 19-17 final.

Whittier outshot Kalamazoo 47-37 and had 25 ground balls to Kalamazoo's 19. The Hornets won 26 draw controls to Whittier's 12.

Rachel Madar led the Hornets with eight goals, one short of her school record. She also had 11 draw controls.

Amanda Moss scored four goals with one assist. Caroline Mundell and Lilly Maumann each scored two goals.

Kalamazoo returns to action Tuesday, April 2 at Hope.
