Women's Soccer upended by No. 4 Illinois Wesleyan

The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team faced another tough test Saturday evening against the No. 4 ranked side from Illinois Wesleyan and the Hornets were unable to gain their first win of the season dropping the contest 3-1.

IWU held just a 1-0 lead heading into halftime but two goals within the first three minutes of play in the second half ended the Hornets' chances at a come from behind win in the second half.

Madeleine Chilcote scored the Hornets only goal of the night in the 52nd minute as the game ended scoreless the rest of the way.

Grace Smith recorded 11 saves in goal for the Hornets.

"The score may not have been indicative but after the game last night and a quick turn around, I thought that our defending as a whole was much stronger today," Head Coach Bryan Goyings said. "Grace was outstanding, especially in the second half.

"We've learned a lot from the last three games and I know that we believe it has prepared us well for the MIAA. It is important to apply this knowledge and find our rhythm."

Kalamazoo will look to gain its first win of the season when they open MIAA play on Sept. 8 at Hope College. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
