Baseball wins two at Rochester

The Kalamazoo College baseball team won both games of a doubleheader at Rochester College on Wednesday, 17-6 and 8-1.

Kalamazoo led 4-2 after the second inning of the opener, but Rochester added three runs over the next four innings to take a 5-4 lead into the seventh.

The Hornets loaded the bases in the top of the seventh before Joey Aliotta's pinch-hit grand slam gave Kalamazoo the lead. The Hornets scored an additional nine runs for a total of 13 in the inning to take a 17-5 lead. Rochester scored one run in the bottom half before Kalamazoo closed out the 17-6 win.

Kalamazoo had 12 hits in the game compared to 15 for Rochester, but the Warriors left 11 runners stranded.

Scott Devine was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Aliotta added a double to finish 2-for-2 with six RBIs and two runs scored.

Eric Glanz also had a double with three RBIs. Mickey Amboyan and Ben Blomme each had two hits.

The first two innings of the second game were scoreless before Kalamazoo scored four runs in the third and three in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead. The Hornets added a run in the top of the fifth before allowing their only run in the bottom half en route to the 8-1 win.

Kalamazoo had 12 hits in the game while limiting Rochester to four.

Dylan Pierce earned the win on the mound allowing just one run on three hits in five innings.

Brett Thomas was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Chaise Kahlenbeck was also 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Scott Devine was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Kalamazoo returns to conference play with a doubleheader at Adrian on Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m. The Hornets return home to face Adrian in a doubleheader at Western Michigan University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
