Baseball downed by Trine, 6-4 (8) and 2-1

KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College baseball team lost a pair of conference games to Trine on Saturday, 6-4 in eight innings and 2-1 in game two.

Trine scored the first run of the game in the third inning of the opener, but Kalamazoo evened the score in the bottom half of the inning. Kalamazoo scored a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-1 lead, but the Thunder scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to tie it at 3-3. After a scoreless seventh, Trine scored three runs in the top of the eighth while holding Kalamazoo to one run in the bottom half securing the 6-4 win.

Kalamazoo had eight hits in the game while Trine had seven.

Marc Zughaib was 2-for-3 while Brett Thomas was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Joey Aliotta had a double while Mickey Amboyan, Ben Blomme, and K.J. Schultz each had a single.

In the second game, Trine scored two runs in the third inning while allowing just a single run in the fifth. The Hornets left four runners on base in the game, including three at second base.

Trine had five hits in the game compared to four for Kalamazoo. Mickey Amboyan was 2-for-3 and scored a run. K.J. Schultz had a double while Joey Aliotta had a single.

Kalamazoo returns to action with a doubleheader at Trine on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
