Baseball falls to Calvin 3-2

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team lost 3-2 to Calvin College in the series finale at Woodworth Field on Monday.

Calvin scored two runs in the top of the third aided by two Kalamazoo throwing errors.

Kalamazoo scored once in the bottom of the inning when Jack Clark scored on Scott Devine's single to left center.

The visiting Knights made it a 3-1 game in the top of the fourth and held the Hornets scoreless until the bottom of the sixth. Ian Kobernick singled with one out and scored on a double by John Jackoviak to make it a 3-2 game after six.

Jack Clark advanced to second on a throwing error to lead off the bottom of the seventh. Nate Donovan pinch ran and ended up advancing to third on the second ground out of the inning, but the Hornets were unable to push the tying run across the plate as the game ended with a strikeout.

Kalamazoo ended up with seven hits in the game and left seven runners on base. Calvin had four hits in the game and left four runners on base.

Ian Kobernick and Scott Devine each had two hits for Kalamazoo.

Kalamazoo returns to action on Tuesday at Woodworth Field as the Hornets host Alma in that series finale with a single 7-inning game beginning at 5 p.m.
