Baseball falls 10-3 at Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team lost 10-3 at NCAA Division I Valparaiso University on Monday.

Kalamazoo trailed 1-0 after three innings before the Crusaders scored four runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to take a 10-0 lead.

The Hornets battled back with a run in the sixth and another run in the eighth and ninth innings.

Valparaiso had 11 hits compared to seven for Kalamazoo, but the Crusaders took advantage of two Hornet errors while committing just one. Kalamazoo left 10 runners on base compared to eight for Valparaiso.

Ian Kobernick was 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead Kalamazoo.

Nate Donovan, Mitchell VanKoevering, Scott Devine, Joey Aliotta and Jack Clark each singled. Brett Garwood drove in a run while Devine scored twice.

Ty Rock pitched four innings and took the loss on the mound. Six other Kalamazoo pitchers saw time on the mound.

Kalamazoo returns to conference play with a doubleheader at Adrian College beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 26.
