Baseball falls twice to Trine

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo College men's baseball team lost its last two games of the regular season today 5-3, and 9-5 to Trine University. Kalamazoo finished the season an even 20-20 overall and 15-13 in MIAA play.

In game one Kalamazoo fell behind 1-0 in the top of the fourth but tied the game in the bottom of the third. The team would then give up one run in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh inning to fall behind 5-1. The Hornets got two of their runs back in the bottom of the seventh but it was too little too late.

Ian Kobernick had two RBIs and Mitchell VanKoevering had one. Nic Janssen had a solid day on the mound, allowing four earned runs over 6.1 innings but he would get the loss. The Hornets outhit the Thunder 12-8 and each team made one error.

In game two the teams traded runs back and forth. In the first five innings there were three ties and two lead changes. The Hornets forced the final tie on an RBI from Joey Aliotta in the bottom of the fifth. The game was tied 5-5 heading into the top of the seventh when the wheels came off for Kalamazoo as they allowed the Thunder to put up four last inning runs.

Senior Adam McDowell took the loss for Kalamazoo after going six innings and giving up three earned runs. Ian Kobernick had hits in both games today, extending his hit streak to nineteen games.

Kalamazoo will face Adrian in the first round of the MIAA tournament Wednesday May 6.
