Ryan Orr playing baseball.

ADRIAN, Mich. – In a match up featuring two All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association First Team starting pitchers, Kalamazoo College's Ryan Orr got the best of Adrian College's Tommy Parsons as Orr led the Hornets to a 2-1 win in the first round of the MIAA postseason tournament Wednesday afternoon on Adrian's campus.

Orr, who led the MIAA with an overall earned run average of 2.01 this season, struck out eight batters while giving up just the one run on five hits in a complete game.

Adrian struck first taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Hornets quickly picked up Orr and answered with a run of their own in the top of the fifth as Mitchell VanKoevering drew a walk with the bases loaded.

Connor Grant led off the top of the sixth inning with a single down the leftfield line and advanced to third on a couple of ground ball outs before Jordan Wiley singled to right field giving K the definitive 2-1 lead.

Orr allowed just one base runner in the final four frames.

Offensively, Grant and Wiley each ended their afternoon with two hits. The Hornets remained patient at the plate all afternoon drawing five base on balls off Parsons.

With the win, Kalamazoo advances to play Hope College tomorrow afternoon in the second round of the tournament.
