Baseball wins series over Hope with doubleheader split

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball teamrecovered from an 8-0 loss in Tuesday's opener to win the second game 7-5 and win the series over Hope taking 3-of-4 games. 

Game One

Hope scored six runs in the first two innings while holding the Hornets scoreless throughout.

Jack Clark broke up Hope's no-hit bid with a leadoff double in the seventh.

Game Two

Hope scored a run in the first but the Flying Dutchmen lead was quickly erased by Ian Kobernick's 3-run home run in the bottom half.

Ryan Orr's 2-run single in the second gave Kalamazoo a 5-1 lead. Orr and Jack Clark singled home runs in the fourth putting Kalamazoo up 7-2.

Hope scored two runs in the fifth and nother in the seventh to make it a 7-5 game. The Flying Dutchmen had bases loaded with two outs when Ryan Orr shut down the threat with a strikeout to end the inning.

Neither team scored over the final innings as Orr closed out the game for the Hornets to earn the save while also going 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base.

Connor Grant had a pair of hits in the game while Mitch VanKoevering had a double.

Kalamazoo returns to action with a home doubleheader against Trine on Thursday, April 13 at 2 p.m.
