Baseball splits doubleheader with Rochester

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Rochester College at Woodworth Field on Wednesday. Rochester won the first game 7-2 while Kalamazoo won the second game 6-5.

Game One

Rochester scored a run in the top of the third to take the lead before Kalamazoo evened the score with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Rochester scored six runs over the final three innings while limiting Kalamazoo to one more run in the bottom of the seventh.

Drew Novetsky had a triple and an RBI while Chase Coselman drove in the other run.

Game Two

Rochester took a 2-0 lead in the second inning before Kalamazoo took a 4-2 lead after three innings. Rochester regained the lead 5-4 in the 5th, but Kalamazoo responded with two runs in the bottom half to take a 6-5 lead which the Hornets held until the end.

Kalamazoo had nine hits in the game led by Todd Bonnivier and Josh Reuter with two hits each. Reuter had a single and a double.

Andre Gard had a triple and drove in two runs. Stefan Leclerc had a double and two RBIs.

Chase Shelbourne picked up the win in relief while Joe Giacalone earned his second save of the season.

Kalamazoo returns to MIAA play with a home doubleheader against Olivet scheduled for Saturday, May 5 at 1 p.m.
