Baseball Sweeps Calvin

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team defeated Calvin twice on Monday afternoon with the first game ending at 8-6 and taking the second 12-4.

Game One

Kalamazoo won the opener 8-6.

The Hornets put up six runs in the first and led 8-1 after four innings. Calvin scored four in the fifth and one in the sixth to make it 8-6, but the Knights were shut down in the seventh to end the game.

Alex Fultz led Kalamazoo with three hits and an RBI while scoring twice.

Austin Duff had a pair of hits while Noah Hecht had a double and two RBIs.

Jack Tagget went four and a third innings to earn the win while Jack Brockhaus retired the Knights in order in the seventh for the save.

Game Two

The Hornets were victorious 12-4 in the second game. 

After taking a 4-3 advantage into the third inning, Kalamazoo outscored Calvin 8-1 in the middle innings to secure the win.

The top four batters in the Hornet lineup combined to go nine for 15 in the game while driving in seven runs and scoring eight.

Hecht reached base in all five at-bats in the second game including a triple and three walks. The freshman also drove in three of Kalamazoo's runs. 

Chase Coselman tallied three hits while driving in two and scoring three more. 

Fultz and Jordan Wiley each added two hits. 

Jacob Gilhaus threw eight innings while allowing three earned runs and striking out three to earn the win.

Kalamazoo returns home on Saturday, April 27 as it hosts Alma at 1 p.m.
