PASADENA, Calif. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team came up a run short in a 9-8 loss at Caltech on Friday.

Kalamazoo broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth when Blake Bean scored on a Max Moran groundout.

Bean's 2-run double in the top of the fifth put the Hornets up 3-0 before a two-run bottom half by the Beavers made it a 3-2 game.

Chase Coselman tripled home a pair of runners in the sixth to give the Hornets a 5-2 lead. Caltech scored one in the bottom half before adding five in the seventh to take an 8-5 lead.

Kalamazoo cut it to 8-7 with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth before Caltech scored a critical insurance run in the bottom half making it a 9-7 game heading to the ninth.

Blake Bean doubled to lead off the ninth and scored on Max Moran's double. Moran advanced to third on the second groundout of the inning and was left stranded as the Hornets grounded out to end the game.
