Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team split a doubleheader with Earlham College on Saturday. Kalamazoo won the opener 5-3 before dropping the second game 6-5.

Game One

Kalamazoo scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to claim a 5-3 win in the first game on Saturday.

Kalamazoo scored one run in the top of the first but trailed 2-1 after two and 3-1 after five. The Hornets trailed 3-2 after six innings before scoring three runs in the top of the eighth to take the 5-3 lead.

Blake Bean had a double and a triple in the game. Zach Prystash also had two hits. Chase Coselman also had two hits including an RBI double. Amani Karim drove in the tying run with a single in the eighth.

Jack Brockhaus struck out seven in six innings of work. Alex Bowden was credited with the win in relief while Doug Propson closed out the ninth to earn the save.

Game Two

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Earlham pushed one run across. Kalamazoo came alive with five runs in the top of the sixth, highlighted by Amani Karim's 3-run triple followed by Austin Duff's RBI single. 

Kalamazoo held the 5-1 lead until the eighth when Earlham scored once to make it 5-2. The Quakers reached base on an error to lead off the bottom of the ninth. The next batter was hit-by-pitch, then a single, then a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-3. Following a pitching change, Earlham singled home another run to make it 5-4 before a two-run double gave Earlham the walk-off win.

Each team had seven hits in the game. 

Chase Coselman was 2-for-3 with a double. Amani Karim was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. 

Kalamazoo and Earlham are scheduled to complete the series with a single game on Sunday at noon.
