Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Alma

ALMA, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team split a pair of games on the road at Alma today, dropping the first game 12-7 before coming up with an 11-7 win in the finale.

Game One

Alma earned the win in the first game of the day. The Scots went up 3-0 in the first two innings. Kalamazoo flipped the lead with six runs in the third to make it 6-3, but were outscored nine runs to one in the final four innings for the 12-7 defeat. 

The five runs by the Hornets in the top of the third were highlighted by base hits from Blake Bean and Chase Coselman, an RBI double from Noah Hecht and an RBI single by Amani Karim

Kalamazoo had ten hits compared to 12 by Alma. 

Noah Hecht was 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Doug Propson and Amani Karim had two hits each. 

Game Two

Kalamazoo had a big first inning to take a 5-0 lead in the opening of game two. Alma cut into the Hornet's lead with six unanswered runs in the next three innings to make it 6-5. The Hornets held on to tie things 6-6 in the fourth, scoring another run in the fifth and sixth innings and wrapping things up with a three-run sixth inning to earn the 11-7 win. 

The Hornets had 16 hits while Alma totaled 11. 

All of Kalamazoo's runs in the first inning were earned as eight different Hornets came up with big hits. Spencer Baldwin hit RBI singles in the fourth and sixth innings. Doug Propson singled in the seventh and scored two runners. 

Spencer Balwin led with four hits for Kalamazoo and three RBIs. Doug Propson had three hits including a triple and two RBIs. Chase Coselman, Noah Hecht and Ben Chosid each had two hits. 

Propson earned the win on the mound, throwing the last 3.2 innings of the game, allowing just two hits and striking out seven Alma batters.
