KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team fell 4-3 in a close battle with Alma in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hornets struck first when Chase Coselman singled to right-center to score Blake Bean, on base from a walk in the first inning. Alma then took the upper hand with four runs scored over the next two innings.

The contest was kept scoreless until Kalamazoo rallied in the final two innings with one run each. Spencer Baldwin came up with a single to right-center to score Lukas Bolton in the eighth frame. In the final inning, Amani Karim got on base after being hit by a pitch. Doug Propson came up to hit to the opposite side to score Karim. The Hornets were unable to complete the rally and the final score sat at 4-3 with Alma taking the advantage.

Kalamazoo had four hits while the Scots totaled five. Propson, Coselman and Baldwin were each credited with an RBI. Five different Hornets had stolen bases.

Thomas Sylvester pitched the first five innings of the contest, allowing four runs and striking out eight Alma batters.

Kalamazoo will play Olivet at Adrian College on Thursday, May 13 at 3 p.m.
