Baseball Splits MIAA Opening Doubleheader at Albion

ALBION, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team split its MIAA opening doubleheader at Albion College on Saturday. Kalamazoo won the opener 13-2 before falling 6-5 in 10 innings.

Game One

Kalamazoo hit four home runs en route to a 13-2 win in the conference opener for both teams. Kalamazoo led 6-0 after three innings and 8-2 after six. The Hornets added two more runs in the seventh and three in the eighth.

Kalamazoo had 13 hits in the game compared to 10 by Albion. The Britons left 13 runners on base.

Noah Hecht, Harrison Poeszat, Max Gordon and Lukas Bolton each homered in the game.

Cooper Mills was 3-for-4 with a double. Hecht and Poeszat each had two hits. Hecht drove in three runs on his home run. Gordon drove in four runs, including three on his home run. The home runs by Poeszat and Bolton were both two-run shots.

Thomas Sylvester earned the win on the mound, allowing one earned run in 5.2 innings of work. Joe Wade and Blake Parpart combined for 2.1 scoreless innings to end the game.

Game Two

Kalamazoo scored three runs in the top of the first and led 4-2 going into the bottom of the seventh. Albion pulled ahead with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Kalamazoo made it 5-5 with a run in the top of the eighth, and neither team scored in the ninth. Albion scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th.

Kalamazoo had 11 hits in the game compared to seven by Albion. The Hornets left 12 runners on base.

Blake Bean, Cooper Mills, Max Gordon and Lukas Bolton each had two hits, including a double for each of them.

Spencer Baldwin had a triple with two RBIs. 

The two teams are scheduled to complete the series with a single game in Kalamazoo on Sunday at 1 p.m.
