Baseball Wins Doubleheader at Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team swept an MIAA doubleheader at Trine on Sunday winning 5-2 and 18-5.

Game One

Kalamazoo scored four runs in the top of the ninth to pull out a 5-2 win in game one. Trine scored a run in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead. Kalamazoo scored one in the eighth on a sacrifice fly, before scoring four runs in the ninth to take the lead. Max Gordon was hit by a pitch to bring home the tying run. Ben Chosid drove in the go-ahead run, followed by Doug Propson's two-run single making it 5-2 Kalamazoo. Despite hitting two runners in the bottom of the ninth, Cade Thune did not allow a hit or a run while earning the save.

Steven Shelton earned the win in two innings of relief with three strikeouts. Thomas Sylvester started the game and allowed two runs in five innings with four strikeouts. Adam Dorstewitz pitched a scorless sixth inning.

Noah Hecht had two hits in the game, including a double. Propson drove in three runs.

Game Two

After taking a two run lead in the first, Kalamazoo gave up two runs in the second allowing Trine to tie the game. The Thunder pulled ahead 3-2 in the third before Kalamazoo scored five runs in the fourth to take the lead for good. The Hornets added four runs in the fifth and seven in the eighth.

Kalamazoo had 19 hits in the game compared to nine by Trine.

Ben Chosid was 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs. Spencer Baldwin was 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Doug Propson had two hits including a home run with five RBIs. 

Harrison Poeszat, Lukas Bolton and Cooper Mills each had two hits.

Trine is scheduled to travel to Kalamazoo on Monday for a single game to close out the series beginning at 4 p.m.
