Baseball Seniors Honor Most Valuable Professors

Kalamazoo College baseball players standing with their most valuable professors.

Seniors on the 2022 Kalamazoo College baseball team recognized their Most Valuable Professors prior to a home game on Sunday, May 1, 2022.

Our first Most Valuable Professor is Professor Tim Moffit from the Economics Department, selected by senior Ben Chosid. Ben attributes his growth as a student directly to Professor Moffit. Ben is grateful for Professor Moffit's guidance in helping him write and complete his Senior Individualized Project.

Seniors Alex Bowden and Noah Hecht selected Dr. Santiago Salinas from the Biology Department as their Most Valuable Professor. Alex appreciates Dr. Salinas for his tremendous help in class and also as his academic advisor. He is grateful for his nonjudgmental insight when it comes to figuring out life. Noah selected Dr. Salinas for brutal honesty and telling things the way he sees them. Noah is grateful for Dr. Salinas' talent in keeping class engaging even through the COVID-19 pandemic – it was the first time he received an animal to dissect via the mail!

Our next MVP is Professor Chuck Stull from the Business Department, selected by seniors Ryan Morgan and Cade Thune. Ryan appreciates Professor Stull's joy and energy that brings his classroom to life. From that, Ryan has learned how impactful a positive attitude can be. He is grateful for Professor Stull's guidance as his academic advisor as well. Cade selected Professor Stull for helping him find his footing as a student both as his professor and also as his academic advisor. Professor Stull has made a lasting impact on Cade's growth as a student and as a person.

Senior Blake Bean selected Professor Amy MacMillan from the Business Department to recognize as his MVP. He appreciates her efforts in always trying to get the best out of her students. She truly cares about the student experience and Blake is grateful to have always had a great experience in her classes.

Our next Most Valuable Professor is Dr. Patrik Hultberg from the Economics Department, selected by senior Max Gordon. Max appreciates Dr. Hultberg as a professor and also as an academic advisor. He is grateful for his clear guidance on what it takes to be successful in class and for his lighthearted classroom environment where you can have a good time while getting work done.

Senior Spencer Baldwin selected Dr. Jennifer Perry from the Psychology Department to recognize as his MVP. Spencer appreciates Dr. Perry's vulnerability as a professor. She is always willing to laugh at herself, making class more enjoyable for students. He also appreciates that she creates an equal playing field and students never feel like they are below her. He is grateful to Dr. Perry for overseeing his independent study in Sports Psychology.

The next MVP is Dr. Alyce Brady from the Computer Science Department, selected by senior Adam Dorstewitz. Adam attributes Dr. Brady for creating his love for computer science. She has been vital to his college education, teaching him that nothing is perfect, cooperation and asking questions is the point, and hard stuff should be shared with friends in order for the best possible outcome.

Senior Paul Pavliscak selected Dr. Christine Hahn from the Art Department to recognize as his Most Valuable Professor. Paul appreciates Dr. Hahn's guidance in reaching his goal of admission to medical school. He is grateful that she is always available for questions and advice. He appreciates how engaged she is in helping him navigate his future past Kalamazoo College.

Our final MVP, who could not be in attendance, is Dr. Hannah Apps from the Economics Department, selected by senior Doug Propson. Doug says that Dr. Apps is the most understanding and passionate professor he has had at K, and she truly cares about her students' success and ability to learn the material rather than focusing on grades specifically. He is grateful for her encouragement of critical thinking and application of knowledge to the real world.

On behalf of the athletic department, THANK YOU to these Most Valuable Professors for being such positive influences for our student-athletes. Your work is greatly appreciated!

Kalamazoo College senior athletes have the opportunity to recognize their Most Valuable Professors throughout the 2021-22 season.
