Harrison Poeszat of the Kalamazoo College baseball team was named the SAAC Men's Hornet of the Week on Wednesday (Mar. 1).
The baseball team began the season with a single road contest at Defiance (Feb. 26). The Hornets started 2023 with an 8-2 win over the Yellow Jackets.
Poeszat led the offense by going 3-4 on the day with two RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. After singling in his second at-bat in the third inning, Poeszat hit his first of two doubles to right-center field to score a run in the fifth inning. His second double was hit down the right field line in the seventh inning for another RBI, with his walk coming in the ninth. Poeszat also guided a pitching staff to surrender just two runs in the season's first game.
At the beginning of his fourth year at Kalamazoo, Poeszat has appeared in 87 games and has 96 hits in 314 at-bats. His slash line of a .306 batting average, .365 on-base percentage, and .455 slugging percentage has resulted in 27 doubles, a triple, six home runs, and 77 RBI. He has also collected 21 walks, four stolen bases, and 50 runs scored. Behind the plate, Poeszat has a .978 fielding percentage and has caught 20 attempted stolen bases.
Kalamazoo will be back in action on Saturday (Mar. 4) with games against North Central and Spalding in Louisville, Ky.
