Braden Mussat of the Kalamazoo College baseball team was named the SAAC Men's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Mar. 21).
The baseball team played four games in the last four days (Mar. 16-19) at the Marietta BSN Sports Invitational in Marietta, Ohio. The Hornets went 2-2, dropping contests to (RV) Otterbein 15-6 and #20 Marietta 12-2 while winning against Johnson & Wales 5-2 and New Jersey City 10-0.
The right-hander had two appearances with one start this past week for the Hornets and did not give up a run. Mussat threw eight and two-thirds innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just three hits, a .100 batting average against, and a walk with four strikeouts. His first game was in relief against #20 Marietta, throwing one and two-thirds innings with a strikeout and a walk each. Mussat came back two days later and tossed a seven-inning gem against New Jersey City. In the run-rule win, he gave up three hits and struck out three hitters for Kalamazoo.
Mussat has appeared in one other game so far this season, throwing a scoreless inning against Spalding with two strikeouts. The junior has made 29 appearances with four starts as a Hornet and has a 4-1 record with one complete game. In 49.2 innings, he has a 3.62 ERA with 46 strikeouts compared to 25 walks and strikes out 8.34 batters per nine innings.
Kalamazoo will head to Davenport, Fla., to play six neutral site contests on Tuesday through Saturday (Mar. 21-25).
