DAVENPORT, Fla. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team continued its spring break trip with a match-up against Union on Thursday (Mar. 23). The Hornets cruised to a five-run win over the Dutchmen by a score of 6-1.

The Hornets scored in five of the first six innings, taking a 6-0 lead. Two runs crossed the plate in the first, with Cooper Mills and Harrison Poeszat collecting one-out singles to get the inning going. After moving up on a wild pitch, David Stechow grounded out to second that Mills scored on, and Poeszat scored on an error.

Three singles loaded the bases with no outs in the second, with Robert Newland, Daniel Beccari, and Ryar Rinehart collecting the hits. Tanner Hawkins brought one run in on a sacrifice fly. Stechow singled with one out in the third inning and then advanced to third on a bad pick-off. Cam Kelly laid down a sacrifice bunt and picked up an RBI when Stechow scored.

Another run scored in the fourth, with Beccari walking and Rinehart singling to put two runners on. Alex Fenkell pinch ran for Beccari and scored on a ground out by Lukas Bolton. The last run for the Hornets was scored in the sixth as Newland walked, advanced to second on a Fenkell sacrifice bunt, stole third, and scored on an RBI groundout by Rinehart. The lone run for Union was in the eighth on a wild pitch.

Thomas Sylvester (3-1) started on the bump and had a no-hitter through seven innings. He went seven and a third, allowed one run on one hit and three walks, and struck out 11. Joe Wade finished the eighth inning and gained a strikeout. Then, Blake Parpart finished the game in the ninth and also struck out one.

Mills and Rinehart had two hits in the game, with Newland and Beccari reaching on a hit and a walk each. Newland scored two of the six runs and five Hornets had an RBI.
