Tanner Hawkins of the Kalamazoo College baseball team was selected as the MIAA Baseball Player of the Week on Monday (Feb. 26). This is Hawkins' first time earning the conference honor.

The Hornets began their season with a road three-game series at Principia on Feb. 23-24. Kalamazoo swept the Panthers 17-0 in seven innings, 7-5, and 20-0 in seven innings.

Hawkins started the 2024 season 5-5 at the plate with three doubles, a home run, six RBI, four runs scored, and a walk. This is good for a 1.000/1.000/2.200 slash line. Hawkins played the first two games of the series before suffering an injury that prevented him from playing in the third game. Last season, Hawkins solidified himself as the everyday left fielder after playing in all 42 games and slashing .319/.439/.378 with 43 hits, eight doubles, 21 RBI, 43 runs scored, 20 walks, and eight stolen bases. He also made just four errors on 61 chances, with one outfield assist.

The Hornets will continue their season with another three-game road series at Earlham on Saturday and Sunday (Mar. 2-3).
