#19 Baseball Bounces Back with Win Over Ramapo

CLERMONT, Fla. - The #19 Kalamazoo College baseball team bounced back after its first loss of the season to defeat Ramapo 10-0 in seven innings in the second game of the Florida Trip on Friday (Mar. 22). The Hornets improved their record to 10-1, and the Roadrunners fell to 7-5.

Scoring Plays

Kalamazoo opened the scoring in the third inning, as Harrison Poeszat hit a ground-rule double to bring in Alex Fenkell and Cooper Mills. Tanner Hawkins brought home David Stechow on an RBI groundout to take a 3-0 lead. Poeszat added another RBI double in the fifth inning for a 4-0 lead, with Stechow scoring another run.

The Hornets' big inning was in the sixth when they sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs. Kalamazoo loaded the bases with one out and scored runs in the next five at-bats. Fenkell plated Robert Newland on an RBI single, and Mills worked a bases-loaded walk to bring in Logan Lockhart. This time, Stechow brought in the runs, with Lukas Bolton and Fenkell scoring on a two-RBI single. Poeszat collected his fourth RBI on a ground out, bringing in Mills, and then Hawkins brought around Stechow on an RBI single for the 10-0 win.

Pitching

Braden Mussat (3-0) went six innings in his scoreless start, allowing just three hits and two walks with a career-high 11 strikeouts. Brenden Oprinski threw a clean seventh inning with a walk and a strikeout.

Hitting

David Stechow was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with three runs scored, two RBI, and was hit by a pitch. Harrison Poeszat finished 2-4 with two doubles and four RBI. Logan Lockhart notched two hits, and Tanner Hawkins finished with two RBI.
