David Stechow and Braden Mussat Selected MIAA Players of the Week

David Stechow and Braden Mussat of the Kalamazoo College baseball team were selected as the MIAA Baseball Players of the Week on Monday (Mar. 25). Stechow grabbed a Player of the Week selection, while Mussat was selected as the Pitcher of the Week. This is the third time in Stechow's career, including two this season, that he has been chosen as a Player of the Week, and this is the first Pitcher of the Week honor for Mussat.

The Hornets played four games in Florida this past week against #13 Johns Hopkins, Ramapo, and Middlebury twice. Kalamazoo was defeated by the Bluejays 10-6 before beating the Roadrunners 10-0 and the Panthers 5-2 in game one and then falling to the Panthers 15-3 in game two.

Stechow paced the offense by hitting .462 (6-13) with four runs scored, two RBI, and a walk. He had two multi-hit performances with his best game coming against Ramapo when he was 3-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Through 13 games this season, Stechow is hitting .477 (21-44) with a .547 on-base percentage and a .545 slugging percentage. He has three doubles, 10 RBI, 19 runs scored, five walks, and eight stolen bases. In 78 career games, Stechow is hitting .362 with 80 hits, 10 doubles, three triples, 54 RBI, 24 walks, and 21 stolen bases. 

Mussat received the win against Ramapo after throwing six scoreless innings with a career-high 11 strikeouts. He allowed just three hits and walked two. The 11 strikeouts are tied for the sixth-most in a game in program history. In four starts this season, Mussat is 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA and a .194 opponent batting average. He has 29 strikeouts compared to 10 walks in 19 innings pitched. Mussat has appeared in 42 career games with 16 starts and has a 13-2 record. In 110.2 innings pitched, he has a 2.52 ERA and 110 strikeouts compared to 45 walks.

Kalamazoo will continue its trip in Florida over spring break, featuring games against Colby and Augustana on Monday and Tuesday (Mar. 25 and 26). The Hornets will return to Michigan to begin MIAA play with a road game at Albion on Friday (Mar. 29) before playing its home opener against Albion in a doubleheader on Saturday (Mar. 30).
